How to save on energy costs and beat inflation with an EV.
With the cost of living going up sharply over the years, people are looking for ways to cut costs and save money. The cost of fuel has become very expensive along with maintenance and taxes.
Electric vehicles are a great way to save money and beat rising prices. There are a few myths surrounding electric vehicles that still deter people from considering one when they are intending to buy a car. Let us look at a few of them and see if there is any truth to it.
Gas stations are everywhere.
While it is true that gas stations are available almost everywhere, EV charging stations are catching up and will soon be available as abundantly as gas stations.
A net benefit of an EV is that it can be charged almost anywhere, even a common residential plug can provide enough charge for an electric vehicle to get to the nearest charging station in case of an emergency, something that a gas powered vehicle cannot do.
Gas powered vehicles are cheaper to maintain.
The price of gasoline has been going up recently due to the global scenario and it is becoming cheaper to have an EV that you can charge at home using residential electricity rates. JD power estimates that to fully recharge your EV from zero to fully charged takes around $10 to $14 depending on the model of the car.
An electric vehicle battery usually is around 75 - 100 kWh so the $14 cost on the higher side. Comparing that with a full tank of gas costing around $50 - $60, an EV is significantly more cost effective.
Tax benefits
Since the government is pushing the transition to electric mobility, there are a lot of tax breaks that are available to purchasers of EV’s. Currently, in the United States, if you purchase an EV on or after December 31st, 2022, buyers are eligible for a tax credit of up to $7500.
The tax credit ranges from $2,500 to $7,500 and is dependent on the size of the battery pack. If compared with gas powered vehicles, the full $7,500 tax subsidy makes the cost of an EV comparable. Additionally, there are a lot of tax breaks available to EV’s in the long run that make it even more attractive as a car for regular use.
We can see that purchasing an EV can definitely allow you to save money and combat the rise in living costs. Getting a home charger can gain you even more independence while saving you cash.
